Three Must See Attractions Near Dulles
Manassas National Battlefield Park
A short 20-minute drive will get you to this 5,000-acre park that preserves the site of the Civil War’s First and Second Battles of Manassas (Battles of Bull Run). You can drive or walk the scenic trails of the solemn battlefield where there are markers, monuments and memorials to retell the history of the site. Located in the Henry Hill Visitors Center are displays of equipment and battle memorabilia.
Mount Vernon
The faithfully restored plantation home of America’s first president, George Washington, is a 45-minute drive from the Dulles airport and it features amazing views of the Potomac River. You can tour the mansion and gardens as well as the museum which features 23 galleries. There are also theaters and more than 700 artifacts located within Mount Vernon.
National Mall & Memorial Parks - Washington, D.C.
Just an hour away by bus or 40 minutes by car is the most visited National Park in the U.S. It’s home to the iconic monuments and memorials that we see in history and in entertainment such as the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials as well as the Washington Monument. The Mall includes amazing Smithsonian museums like the National Museum of American History and the National Gallery of Art. All the sites and museums are free.
